Flori Roberts, an actress turned marketing consultant, in the mid-1960s over-heard two Black models lamenting the difficulty of finding makeup suitable
for their skin tones.
Her husband Craig Roberts, a doctor who had studied the science of Black skin, helped Flori launch a line of make-up for Black women in 1966.
“No one could believe she had foundations and lipsticks and eyes shadows in colors that were right for dark skin,” Marion Boswell, a Black woman who was Roberts’ first beauty adviser.
